After a meticulous redistricting process aimed at achieving balanced representation among its six zones, the Daytona Beach City Council has successfully implemented a new zoning map that went into effect on September 1, 2023. This critical process, known as redistricting, is carried out every decade to adjust zone boundaries in response to population shifts within the city.

These redistricting adjustments ensure that each zone is balanced in terms of population, promoting fair representation and effective governance for the residents of Daytona Beach. Notable boundary expansions in several zones reflect the changing demographics and urban development within the city, ensuring that the zones accurately represent the evolving landscape of Daytona Beach.

Following the extensive redistricting process, the City of Daytona Beach has scheduled a series of meetings where residents can connect with their local representatives at 6 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, October 3: Zone 6, Commissioner Paula R. Reed, Cherry Cultural & Educational Center, 925 George W. Engram Blvd.

  • Thursday, October 5: Zone 2, Commissioner Ken Strickland, Schnebly Recreation Center, 1101 N. Atlantic Ave.

  • Tuesday, October 10: Zone 3, Commissioner Quanita May, Dickerson Recreation Complex, 308 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

  • Wednesday, October 11: Zone 1, Commissioner Monica Paris, Dickerson Recreation Complex, 308 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

  • Thursday, October 12: Zone 5, Commissioner Dannette Henry, Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Cultural & Educational Center, 1000 Vine Street

These gatherings offer an invaluable opportunity for residents to meet their respective commissioners and gain insights into recent accomplishments and forthcoming projects within their designated zones.
