The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has reported the apprehension of a suspect in connection with an armed robbery at Kelly’s Food Mart, situated at 1000 Derbyshire Road in Daytona Beach, which transpired on November 23, 2023. The arrested individual, identified as 18-year-old Cameo Reid, not only admitted to his involvement in the robbery at Kelly’s Food Mart but also confessed to perpetrating a second incident on Mason Avenue in Daytona Beach.

The Kelly’s Food Mart robbery unfolded at approximately 1:30 p.m. on November 23, as the masked suspect confronted a store employee behind the counter, brandishing a firearm tucked into his waistband. The suspect did not allow the employee to leave, was issuing threats of harm, and seized her cell phone, before taking cash and other items and hastily departing the store. As the suspect left the store, he narrowly avoided the store owner who was coming through the door. When the owner began to follow after the suspect, he turned, pulled out the gun, and fired one shot at the building. The owner ducked and fled back inside as the bullet hit the wall near him.

The store's surveillance cameras captured crucial footage of the suspect and his getaway vehicle, a white Hyundai Santa Fe. Analyzing this evidence, along with the recovery of a spent 9mm shell casing at the crime scene, analysts at the Volusia County Crime Center successfully identified the vehicle and its registered owner.

In collaboration with the Daytona Beach Police Department, authorities located the Santa Fe’s registered owner at a residence in Daytona Beach, with the parked SUV outside. Cameo Reid answered the door, informing officers that he was the vehicle owner's son and notably matched the description provided by the convenience store employee.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the investigation continued, and on Tuesday the Daytona Beach Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) conducted a traffic stop on the Hyundai Santa Fe, with Reid at the wheel. Hanging from the turn signal, police found a distinct black-and-white COVID mask that matched one used in another convenience store robbery Monday at the Stop Save Food and Beverage at 1096 Mason Avenue. Reid was arrested on unrelated charges of driving with a suspended license and brought in for an interview. During the interview, Reid confessed to both robberies and firing a shot at the Kelly’s Food Mart owner to scare him, not to kill him.

As a result of these admissions, Reid now faces a range of charges, including attempted felony murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. In addition to charges related to the Kelly’s Food Mart incident, Reid is also facing armed robbery charges from the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Daytona Beach detectives executed a search warrant at Reid's residence, where they uncovered a concealed 9mm handgun hidden in a toilet. Notably, the ammunition in the recovered handgun matched the brand found in the spent shell casing at Kelly’s Food Mart.

As of this writing, Cameo Reid is being held without bond at the Volusia County Branch Jail, pending further legal proceedings.
