The Daytona Beach Police Department has officially declared Danitto Simpson, 25, the prime suspect in Sunday night’s shooting on Jean Street that claimed the life of 24-year-old Donnell Williams.
The tragic incident unfolded at the Jean Street apartments, where both the suspect and victim were residents. Investigators determined that an argument between Simpson and Williams escalated into a violent confrontation following witness reports suggesting that the dispute had roots in a longstanding conflict over a woman. Following a physical altercation between Simpson and Williams, tensions reached a boiling point when Simpson produced a firearm and fired a single shot into Williams' abdomen.
Williams attempted to flee the scene, but Simpson relentlessly pursued him, leading to a second gunshot echoing through the complex. Tragically, this second shot struck Williams in the leg, causing additional harm.
When police arrived on the scene, Williams was lying on the floor covered in blood, suffering from both gunshot wounds, before being taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A warrant for Simpson's arrest was issued Tuesday afternoon for first-degree murder charges.
