Carbiener Pamela P MD

Dr. Carbiener and her family arrived in the Daytona Beach area in 1992, and she has been practicing obstetrics and gynecology with Halifax OBGYN for 23 years.  She was introduced to community service early on,  by iconic physicians like Jim White and Marty Fiegenbaum.  Initially, she became involved in the Volusia County Medical Society, doing school physicals and contributing to the Stethoscope as author and later editor.  She became the medical director of the Rape Crisis Center, and was a founder of COPE.  The first half of her career did focus on organized medicine, chairing the OBGYN departments at Ormond and Halifax, matriculating to Chief of Staff at Halifax and eventually serving on the Halifax Board of Commissioners and as a delegate for the  Florida Medical Association.  She then gravitated more to community based organizations, serving on the boards of COPE, Healthy Start, Healthy Communities, the Bert Fish Foundation, The Daytona State College Center for Women and Men, the Halifax Health Foundation, the Daytona Blues Festival and the Stewart Marchman Act Foundation.

She is most proud of her work in two area of healthcare--medical education with the FSU College of Medicine, and her mission to maintain prenatal care access to all women.  Seizing on the opportunity to create a regional medical student campus, she advocated aggressively alongside TK Wetherall, Dr. Sharples, Dr. Schildecker and  Noah McKinnon to bring this to fruition.  In its seventh year, this campus boasts of a faculty of over 400 physicians, dedicated to training the next generation and a number of graduates have returned here to practice.  Dr. Carbiener is the clerkship director of OBGYN and is privileged to teach every student who matriculates through the campus.

In the trenches,  her passion remains prenatal care to all women--regardless of their insurance and their health issues that affect their unborn children.  In order to better understand the challenges faced by underserved women, she worked one day weekly at the VCHD prenatal care clinic, alongside a Healthy Start specialist and together they provided high risk medical care and social services to those at highest risk--until the VCHD closed its clinic.  She has since moved many of these patients into her private practice and seen others at the Halifax Health Women Care Now.  She has become the “go to” obstetrician for women with addiction, homelessness and mental illness.  Her private patients support this and have become more aware of these issues--furthering focus on this critical need for community wellness.

In an effort to educate our community and provide fundraising for women and infants at risk, Dr. Carbiener and her family, alongside an incredible board of directors developed the Daytona Blues Festival.  In its seventh year, these Blues for Babies have donated over $150K to the Halifax Health NICU project and Project WARM at the Vince Carter Sanctuary. This three day music festival in October has been embraced by our community and the national blues fans and continues to grow, 

These opportunities could only be realized because the entire Carbiener family embraced them.  Frank and their children Sarah, Charlie and Katie supported and sacrificed for these many causes. To them she owes everything.
