Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young released a statement this afternoon, expressing his profound grief and solace following the line-of-duty death of Officer Jason Raynor and the subsequent sentencing of his perpetrator, Othal Wallace. The tragic shooting, which occurred on June 23, 2021, and ultimately led to Officer Raynor's death 56 days later on August 17, 2021, left an unforgettable mark on the Raynor Family, the Daytona Beach community, and the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Last month, a jury found Wallace guilty of manslaughter, and as of today, Friday, October 27, 2023, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

"The line of duty death of Officer Jason Raynor was an immense tragedy, one that still weighs heavily on this agency and our community. Today, we take solace in the knowledge that the perpetrator of this heinous crime has received the maximum sentence allowed by law following his manslaughter conviction," Chief Young stated.

The Daytona Beach community has rallied for justice ever since Officer Raynor sacrificed his life while protecting and serving others. With the conclusion of the judicial proceedings, the focus now shifts towards preserving Raynor's memory and the values he embodied throughout his life—honor, courage, and dedication. Officer Raynor's willingness to lay down his life in service to others has become a testament to his enduring legacy.

"Officer Raynor will not be remembered for the way he died, but for those ideals he embodied in life.” Chief Young emphasized. “His enduring legacy of service and sacrifice will live on as an inspiration to his family, friends, and a grateful community," Chief Young emphasized.

The heartfelt message extended to Officer Raynor's family, acknowledging the unimaginable pain they have endured daily since June 23, 2021. Chief Young assured them of the department's unwavering support and offered hope that the recent sentencing might provide a sense of solace in their time of profound loss.

Chief Young also took a moment to express his appreciation for State Attorney R. J. Larizza and his team of dedicated prosecutors, who tirelessly pursued justice for Officer Raynor. He also commended the law enforcement community for standing together during the challenging times.

"As Chief of Police, I am incredibly proud of the officers and staff of the Daytona Beach Police Department for their dedicated service to our community," Chief Young noted, emphasizing the strong bond within the department and the unwavering support from the citizens of Daytona Beach.

The rallying cry of "Daytona Strong. Raynor Strong" echoes through the community, honoring Officer Jason Raynor's memory and the enduring values he represented.
