The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety announced a new “Sharps Disposal Program” that allows residents to drop off personal, used sharps. “Sharps” refer to needles used to deliver various medications such as insulin used by a person with diabetes.
Residents can dispose of their sharps at the Department of Public Safety located at 3050 S. Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach Shores, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., free of charge.
This new program will save residents of Daytona Beach Shores trips to the Volusia County Health Department for disposal.
According to a release, to be disposed of correctly, sharps should be in a puncture-proof container and disposed of with other biohazard wastes – material that is contaminated with blood or bodily fluids.
Residents who drop off a used sharps container must show an ID and will receive a 1-quart sharps container for free.
