The City of Daytona Beach is searching for community members to take part in a Salary Review Committee (SRC) aimed at meticulously assessing the compensation and benefits of its esteemed City Commission members.

As an independent body, the SRC's primary goal is to establish fair and just compensation for the mayor and six-zone commissioners. Alongside a comprehensive analysis of the present salaries and responsibilities assigned to Daytona Beach's elected representatives, the SRC will conduct in-depth research on wage practices within comparable municipalities. The end goal of this diligent endeavor will be to provide a conclusive recommendation to the City Commission. Currently, the annual earnings for the mayor are $41,059, while each commissioner receives $23,650 annually, with the last change to the Daytona Beach City Commission's salary being in 2006.

Guided by City Code Section 2-56, the committee's composition stipulates a minimum of five community members, who must be Daytona Beach residents, including at least two former elected city officials.

Those interested in the SRC should send their resume and letter of intent by Friday, September 1, 2023, to the City Clerk's Office via email at clerk@codb.us. Alternatively, applications can be hand-delivered or mailed to the City Hall's City Clerk's Office at 301 S. Ridgewood Avenue in Daytona Beach. The City Commission will finalize the selection of SRC members during their public meeting on October 4.

Selected SRC members will meet at least twice in October and present their final report to the City Commission by January 1, 2024. If the SRC recommends a salary adjustment, the earliest date for it to be effective would be after the November 2024 general election.
