The City of Daytona Beach invites residents to partake in the National Purple Heart Day ceremony on Wednesday, August 2, at 5:45 p.m. at Daytona Beach City Hall at 301 S. Ridgewood Avenue to honor those who have been wounded or lost their lives in the line of duty. National Purple Heart Day, which falls on Monday, August 7, is when the nation unites to remember and honor the brave men and women who were either wounded on the battlefield or paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The Purple Heart is the oldest and most prestigious military award still bestowed upon American service members. It symbolizes bravery, resilience, and commitment to the principles of liberty and justice that the United States stands for.
Led by Mayor Derrick L. Henry, esteemed city officials, and supported by various community veteran organizations, the ceremony on August 2 will commence with a poignant flag-raising ceremony in front of City Hall, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony in Commission Chambers before the City Commission meeting at 6 p.m.
