Drivers Education courses offered for High School students.

Any student residing in Volusia County may register for the spring semester Driver’s Education program beginning Tuesday, January 11, at 8 p.m. There are no fees associated with the program, and students may earn a paperless waiver of the road test for an operator’s license.

Brochures for the Driver's Education program are online at the Drivers Education site, the high school’s guidance department, or the school’s front desk.

Starting January 24, the After-School Program runs through May 3 from 3:45 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. If there are schedule conflicts, the student may adjust meeting times. However, the student must wear closed-toe shoes for the lessons.

The following two schools will offer the program:

• Mainland High, 1255 West International Speedway Boulevard, Daytona Beach
• Taylor High, 100 East Washington Avenue, Pierson

There will be no classes for the After-School Program during the week of March 14-20.

The second program, Saturday Program, will begin on January 22 and run through April 16. Students will need to bring a lunch and wear closed-toe shoes from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The following schools provide this program:

• DeLand High, 800 North Hill Avenue, DeLand
• New Smyrna Beach High, 1015 10th Street, New Smyrna Beach
• Seabreeze High, 2700 North Oleander Avenue, Daytona Beach
• University High, 1000 West Rhode Island Avenue, Orange City

There will be no class on February 19, March 12, and March 19.

Eligibility requirements for the driver’s education program are:

• All students currently enrolled in a Volusia County public school (to earn elective credit), School of Choice, private school, or in the home-school program, and eligible to drive will get the opportunity to enroll in a driver education program, if seats are available. 
• Students must be 15 years old or older on or before the first day of the session, for which the student is enrolled in.
• Students must have completed one full year of high school on or before the first day of the session.
• Students must have and present a learner’s license on the first day of the session, for which the student is enrolled in.
• Students must not have already received credit for driver’s education.

Registration for the spring semester driver’s education program will begin soon on the district’s driver’s education website, and spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

If the classes meet the enrollment capacity, students will land on a waiting list. The county owes thanks to the Dori Slosberg Driver Education Trust Fund for paying for this program. For more information, students should contact their home high school.
