Inhumane dog fighting ring exposed in Daytona Beach; animals rescued.

On August 1, 2023, the Daytona Beach Police Department responded to numerous anonymous tips about alleged dog fighting activities and animals living in unimaginable, horrific conditions at a residence located at 792 Iowa Street. Upon arrival at the home, officers found several dogs bearing fresh wounds and other injuries.

Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit were notified for further investigation and obtaining a search warrant, and to contact experts from the Halifax Humane Society (HHS) and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) for their assistance and invaluable expertise to ensure the animals received the best care.

During the execution of the search warrant, investigators discovered eight dogs, each displaying heartbreaking signs of abuse, including numerous scars and fresh injuries indicative of dog fighting. Tragically, the remains of what is suspected to be a ninth dog were also discovered on the property and are currently undergoing examination. The dogs are now receiving essential medical care, comfort, and rehabilitation in the safe and supportive facilities of the HHS.

In addition to rescuing the animals, the officers found a notebook ledger referencing dog fighting, a black 223 magazine, ammunition, certificates from the American Dog Breeder Association, a black Taurus firearm, a black 9mm Ruger, and bottles of wound treatment. Most distressingly, large pieces of carpet/matting, heavily stained with what appeared to be blood, were found in the area presumed to be a dog fighting pit.

The Daytona Beach Police Department is still investigating this incident, and no arrests have been made at this time.
