Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and the crowds will be out and ready to tan, surf the waves, and relax on the beaches of Volusia County.

According to a press release put out by the County on May 26, all vehicle ramps will open at 8 a.m., and all vehicles must leave the beach before 7 p.m. Parking will also be available at off-beach parking lots.

Weather reports forecast the weather over the weekend to include a mix of sun and storms causing rip currents to be an ongoing threat, and swimmers are encouraged to swim in front of staffed lifeguard stations. Clear weather is forecasted for Saturday, which expected to be a busy beach day.

If you see any Sargassum seaweed, don’t remove it. This specific seaweed, which came to shore last week, is beneficial to the environment of the beach itself and may have an uneasy smell.

The start of turtle season began May 1st, and the beach must be left as it is found – clean and void of any trash. Items such as glass bottles, alcohol, and pets (not including the dog beaches) are prohibited while having fun on the beaches. Trash and recycle bins will be scattered about the beach to help keep the beach clean and safe for all beachgoers, including the turtles.
