Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the Moving Florida Forward initiative aimed at accelerating transportation projects across the state over the next four years. If approved by the legislature, the proposal would allocate $4 billion in general revenue and redirect an average of $131 million annually to the State Transportation Work Program. This, in addition to leveraging additional funding, would result in a $7 billion enhancement to Florida's transportation infrastructure.

Ormond Beach Mayor, Bill Partington, proudly announced that upon the successful passage of the legislature, the City of Ormond Beach and Volusia County will receive a significant portion of these funds - $340 million - towards the I-95 at US-1 Interchange project which would reduce congestion, improve safety, and ensure a more robust transportation system.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for Ormond Beach and Volusia County to make a big impact on our transportation system," said Mayor Partington. "We are grateful for the support of Governor DeSantis and FDOT, and we are excited to get started on this transformational project ahead of schedule."

The I-95 interchange at US-1 has been operating under the original design for nearly 50 years and has consistently been one of the most dangerous roadways in Volusia and Flagler Counties, with 70-80 accidents reported over the past three years. The project, listed as number 20 on the Moving Florida Forward initiative, will redesign, and rebuild the interchange to improve safety for residents and visitors.

The City Commission and staff, under the guidance of Maryam Ghyabi-White of Ghyabi Consulting & Management, have been working tirelessly to secure funding for this project and are thrilled that it has come to fruition. The city will continue to collaborate with FDOT to ensure the project is completed efficiently and effectively.

"This project will have a lasting impact on our residents and visitors, and we are committed to making sure it is executed efficiently and effectively," said Mayor Partington. "I can't wait to see the positive changes and safety improvements this project will bring to Ormond Beach and Volusia County."
