Routine water flushing underway in Daytona Beach

Does your water seem to taste different? It's not your imagination. Throughout March, the City of Daytona Beach is temporarily changing the disinfectant used in its water treatment process from chloramines to free chlorine. The routine change is necessary to maintain the distribution system and water quality. Disinfection is a critical part of the water treatment process that keeps drinking water free of harmful microorganisms. During the change of disinfectant, tap water continues to be safe to drink and use. Some customers, including South Daytona water customers, may notice a stronger smell or taste for a few weeks. Here are a few tips to minimize the chlorine odor and taste:

  • Run the tap for a few minutes before using
  • Refrigerate water in an open pitcher for several hours
  • Add a slice of citrus or cucumber and let sit for several hours

If you have any questions concerning this procedure, please call the water department at (386) 671-8815 or (386) 671-8809.
