Dona Butler, Community Services Director for Volusia County, informed the Volusia County Council, Tuesday, of receiving informal word about the County being granted additional funds to be released and is currently awaiting an official award letter that should arrive later this week.

The normal process would be to wait until official confirmation of the grant award before bringing it to the County Council for approval, but Butler asked the council’s advance approval so the county can make the money available as quickly as they can, once the award letter is received.

The money is set to be coming from the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development, and a majority of the funds are expected to go to rental assistance.

“We’ve got all of our plans in place to move this program forward,” Butler told the council. “We just need your permission to be able to do this.”

The council gave unanimous consent and authorizes County Manager George Recktenwald and County Chair Ed Kelley to approve the funds for eligible activities.
