Sheriff Chitwood was elected as Volusia County Sheriff in August 2016 and re-elected without opposition in August 2020. Since he was sworn into service in January 2017, Sheriff Chitwood has accomplished some major policing feats in the county and has grown his fan base with the residents for his views on many controversial topics.
