A South Florida Man is in custody this morning after a shooting early this morning lead to the death of a 10-year-old boy.
Daytona Beach Police Department responded to a call just before 6:00 a.m. off Center Street, where Officers found the boy shot in the torso, and a 5-month-old girl was shot in the wrist.
The suspect, Terrance H. Young, fled the scene in a blue Land Rover SUV before police arrived on the scene.
The vehicle was found near Whitehall and George Streets, an hour after the incident was reported. Officers proceeded to track Young from that location.
Young was found 30-minutes later in a residence off of Division Street and taken into custody by DBPD.
Detectives believe Young shot both children with a rifle before fleeing the scene. It is unclear as to why Young shot either child, but an investigation is on-going.
The 10-year-old boy was transferred to Halifax Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The infant was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital.
Young had prior warrants in both Volusia (Fleeing and Eluding) and Miami-Dade Counties (Violation of Probation – Aggravated Stalking), but they are unrelated to this morning’s incident.
Young is in custody on the warrants and exact charges in this incident are still pending.
