In a terrifying incident on Sunday, May 14, 2023, a 6-year-old child narrowly escaped a potential abduction in the 700 block of Halifax Avenue.

According to reports, the child and their mother were walking home around noon when an unidentified individual forcefully grabbed the child. Thankfully, the mother's tight grip prevented the suspect from succeeding, and in a panic, the assailant quickly fled the scene.

Law enforcement officials have released a description of the suspect. The unknown party is described as a black female with lighter skin, estimated to be between 25 and 35 years old, approximately 5'06" to 5'08" tall, has short black hair styled in a bun, and possesses a slender build, wearing a gray tee shirt paired with a long red skirt.

Fortunately, the child escaped the ordeal unharmed and remained in the care of their parent throughout the incident. However, as a precautionary measure, Our Lady of Lourdes notified parents not to let their children walk home alone in light of this alarming incident. The Daytona Beach Police Department is actively investigating the case and is working diligently to identify the suspect involved.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding this incident to promptly contact the Daytona Beach Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division at (386) 671-5200 or the Volusia Sheriff's Office Dispatch at (386) 248-1777 or 911.
