Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach enacted lockdown and shelter-in-place procedures due to a call in a bomb threat and an active shooter threat on campus early Monday morning.

As a result, the Daytona Police Department shut down Lincoln Street and Mary McLeod Bethune Boulevard to investigate the threat. The officers used bomb-sniffing dogs to search the entire campus until receiving confirmation of all-clear around 11 a.m.

According to police, the Daytona Beach Police Department is working with various law enforcement agencies – including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) – as investigators look into threats made across the United States today at various Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU).

This nationwide incident appears to have started around January 4, 2022, when six different HBCU campuses received threats. Today, seven additional campuses were targeted, including Bethune-Cookman University (BCU) in Daytona Beach.

The threats in these incidents appear to originate from a Neo-Nazi group that targets African Americans.

A heavy police presence will remain around the Bethune-Cookman University campus to restrict movement on and around the campus for the remainder of the day.
