On Monday, March 27, 2023, police officers responded to a call at Dunkin' Donuts at 1173 W International Speedway Boulevard following a report of a shot fired inside the establishment. The incident occurred just before 8:30 a.m.

According to a release, the manager described the suspects, who had fled the scene just before the officers arrived with no injuries reported during the incident. Due to the proximity of Mainland High School to the Dunkin' Donuts location, the school was locked down as a precautionary measure.

Officers made contact with the suspects, two juvenile males, near the Dunkin Donuts. The juveniles had a firearm in their possession, which was secured by officers, before transporting the teens to Daytona Beach Police Headquarters. The Daytona Beach Police Department confirmed that both juveniles are Mainland High School students.

The 16-year-old student was arrested and charged with discharging a firearm in public, carrying a concealed weapon, felony possession of ammunition by a felon, violation of probation, and criminal mischief. The 15-year-old student was charged with possession of cannabis under 20 grams under the age of 21 years old.
