No County Parking Sites Open for Residents Engaging in Exercise-Related Activity on Beaches.

While Volusia County has lifted certain restrictions on county-wide beach access to allow exercise-related activities, many questions have a rose about where residents can park their cars while they engaged in these activities on the beach.

Kristen Schmutz, News Editor for BC News, looked into the matter. Reaching out to Deb Denys Councilwoman for District 3 personally via email, which prompted a response from Kevin Captain, Interim Director for Community Information this afternoon.

According to County Officials and Mr. Captain, while the County understands the importance of the beaches to its residents, they are encouraging compliance with the ‘Safer-at-Home’ Order issued by Governor DeSantis last week. They also understand the importance of safe outlets for exercise-related activities and are encouraging residents to walk or jog around their residence.

The County will not encourage or facilitate trips to the beach, and not provide parking at this time. If residents do feel the need to utilize the beach for exercise-related activities on the beach they may find a lawful and nearby place to park while they walk onto the beach to exercise.

“The closure of beach parking and other public facilities are designed to be short-term measures that will help us recover and be a safer and healthier community in the long-term. We sympathize with this temporary inconvenience and look forward to returning to normal life just as soon as it’s safe to do so,” Kevin Captain said via email.
