Repairs Begin on Daytona Beach Pier after Damages from Hurricane Dorian.
Written by Kristen Schmutz
Hurricane Dorian, a deadly storm that grazed Florida’s coast left its mark on Daytona Beach’s Pier, located off Main Street in Daytona Beach.
The century-old pier is slated to receive a $1.1 million makeover. The City plans on repairing and replacing cross-bracing, decking boards and adding more support to the pier. Crews are set to start repairs on the west end of the boardwalk and work their way down, finishing at the pier.
Boardwalk shop owners are ecstatic to see the repairs get underway, and hope that the city will add a few improvements while the crews are on-site. The city is also looking to explore the possibilities of modifying the pier, replacing it, or building onto the pier to account for some new buildings.
Damages accrued from Hurricane Dorian, back in 2019 had the fishing portion of the pier shut down since August. Repairs are estimated to be completed in April.
