The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bryan Holmes, 18, of Deltona, Thursday morning, following reports of a road rage shooting on State Road 415 around 6 a.m.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the victim said she was traveling southbound on S.R. 415 and was approached from behind by an erratically driven car with no headlights. Due to the suspect’s unsafe driving, a nearby vehicle moved onto the shoulder to let the car pass.

The suspect tried to navigate between that vehicle and the victim’s, contacting the victim’s rear bumper and driving alongside the victim’s SUV for several minutes before opening fire out of the driver’s window. Deputies arrived to find the victim’s vehicle was struck by bullets seven times, with no reported injuries to the victim.

Deputies utilized a License Plate Reader technology to identify Holmes as the suspect in this incident. Deputies arrived at Holmes’ residence on Arcadia Street in Deltona, having eyes on the car within a half hour of the incident.

Just before 8:30 a.m., Holmes entered the car and tried to back out of his driveway before being approached by deputies. Deputies asked Holmes if he had possession of a gun, but claimed he did not. When his hands moved toward his waistline, a deputy grabbed Holmes’ arms leading him away from the vehicle, causing a handgun to fall to the driveway.

Holmes indicated to deputies that the victim’s vehicle had cut him off in traffic, and he’d hit its rear bumper. He said he fired several rounds into the car, aiming for the tires to disable the vehicle.

According to a release, Holmes was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and possession of a concealed weapon used in the commission of a felony by a person under 24. He is in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail with a bond of $40,000.
