A 25-year-old man is undergoing treatment after he was shot late Thursday night by officers from the Daytona Beach Police Department while investing a complaint concerning domestic disturbance.
Officers received a call to the Icon One Apartments, which are located inside One Daytona just before 10 p.m. Thursday.
According to reports, as officers were on the way to the scene, dispatchers were informed that two men were arguing with one another in a parking lot off of Legends Lane. One of the men indicated that he was going to “stab someone” if he saw a law enforcement officer arrive on the scene.
After Officers arrived on the scene, a suspect that was later identified as Andrew A. Mansilla, one of the men in the argument was spotted with a sharp object. Body camera footage of the incident shows Mansilla charged at one of the officers, even after multiple warnings to stop.
Officers tried to stop Mansilla with a taser, which was unsuccessful. After the taser was deployed and failed to stop Mansilla, two officers pulled their firearms and shot at Mansilla. Paramedics transported Mansilla to Halifax Health Medical Center. He is in critical condition; no other injuries were reported.
The identity of the officers who were involved in the shooting will remain confidential for now as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates this incident.
Those officers will be placed on administrative leave with pay until the investigation concludes, which is standard procedure in these types of incidents.
